Africa Marks One Year Without Case of Polio

Extraordinary milestone made on African continent over past generation.

Today, August 11, 2015, marks one year since the last reported case of the wild polio virus on the African continent.  For those Rotarians supported by Pak West and who “Serve Above Self”, it’s a celebratory day in the fight against this disease.  UNICEF attributes this feat to the work of hundreds of thousands of volunteers along with national and local governments, the World Health Organization, Rotary International, the Center for Disease Control, UNICEF, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and contributions made by many public and private donors.  Rotary International made the eradication of the disease a mission 30 years ago and has raised almost $700 million over the years to fight polio globally.
